I’m beginning to have a love-hate relationship with K.F. Breene’s books. Obviously, I love her books, the writing is solid, and, to my Fiancé’s dismay, I can never seem to put her books down (hello, forgotten housework!). The hate part comes because I feel lost after I read her books. Nothing is good enough for a little while. The worst part is I feel like an addict waiting for their next hit when I’m waiting for her next book to come out. It’s becoming unhealthy I think.Well, I suppose you want to know what I thought of Raised in Fire. In case it wasn’t already obvious, I finished this book feeling like my world is empty without her characters running amok in my mind’s eye. Honestly, I put off reading this book for a few weeks because of the world-shattering void knew would come when I got to the last page. And here I am. Missing Regean’s next-level crazy in the face of danger. Oh, and let’s not forget about Darius, my newest book boyfriend (seriously, he’s mine!). This second book in the Fire and Ice Trilogy takes Regean on a quest in Seattle, in a battle between discovering what she’s really capable of, and also trying to hide it from the rest of the world. This book becomes a little more dimensional than the first, leaving almost as many questions as answers toward the end. I’m still hung up, trying to sort out how I feel about the ending. Perhaps I’ll have these feelings sorted out before book three is released.I do wish there was little but more complexity to the plot. Maybe some more twists. For the most part, I felt like I could guess the entire plot line. Don't get me wrong, it was a super enjoyable read, I just feel like K.F. Is capable of messing with her readers a little more, but hasn't taken the risk. I'm also not sure I want to see Regean NOT be the powerful, capable woman who doesn't need a man. SPOILER ALERT: There will be spoilers from the first book. Ye have been warned.Reagan finally got the (forged) legal papers she always wanted and now has a desk job. Too bad that's BORING. But when the aswang shows up in NOLA, Reagan gets to have some more excitement, followed by a request to help out in Seattle.Agnon has been sent out by Reagan's father to determine if Reagan is his daughter. There are some tests he needs performed before he is willing to bring her to his master's attention to ensure there is no doubt that she is who the Great Master is looking for. Too bad Reagan doesn't know about that.In other news, Reagan now has a vampire stalker/ caretaker. Darius knows her dark secret, and for some reason has decided that he is responsible for Reagan's safety, whether or not Reagan agrees, and he will take care of her however he sees fit, including never-seen house cleaners and fridge stockers. Darius is also dealing with some emotions that leave him confounded, but he's willing to stand behind them. There is a lot of growth that happens in the Reagan/ Darius world.This is another great book by K.F. Breene. Again, Reagan is a strong character who is fun to tag along with. She doesn't always look before she leaps, but she keeps going. Dizzy and Callie are also along for the ride adding extra entertainment, as well as her eclectic neighbors. This book definitely gets my vote.
